How do you know if your no-show was significant?

Imagine you are reviewing your results and you see a significant finding- lets say a biopsy showing cancer. You create a task to your receptionist to call the patient in and mark the lab as reviewed. Your receptionist on talking to the patient and booking the appointment marks her task as completed. The day comes for the appt and the patient no-shows. The patient never follows up with you. You have lost all ways to track this patient. Here is a situation where a cancer can be missed, the patient suffers and the doctor is liable. The fix; when reviewing labs if we come across a significant finding we should have a way in which one click of the mouse both removes it from our list of unreviewed labs and also marks it so that if the patient no-shows for their appt to review that report an alert is generated to the doc/secretary to say that the appt was missed and the patient should be contacted.
