Being able to create Pop-up windows in a form will save screen space on the form and allow customizable pop-ups for specific circumstances. For example, if a patient has diabetes, the pop-up could include questions about duration, complications by system (nephropathy, retinopathy, dermopathy, etc). Similarly, any disease could have a pop-up created with a mini SOAP customizable box to capture information specific to that complaint. Imagine you are seeing a patient for fatigue and anemia but history and exam is leading you to a specific cause ie select a disease from a drop down list of conditions - say temporal arteritis A pop-up could be created and saved (on the fly) by the provider which would include: Subjective 1) jaw cramps 2) scalp pain 3) fatigue 4) vision loss Objective 1) palpable tender artery 2) pallor (anemia) 3) cachexia Assessment Suspected Temporal Arteritis Plan Needs biopsy Ophthalmic referral Temporal artery biopsy ESR or CRP Consider prednisone If the pop-up could be customized with check boxes or text entry boxes, it could be dumped into impression and plan in the template for letter generation. Many standard "disease wizards" could be created but only invoked if "popped up" Other EMR software has pop-up features. This is necessary to make forms condensed and manageable but yet customizable for frequently seen conditions.
