updating referring/family physician

When patient comes in for an appointment, they sometimes have a new physician.  We update the chart however their previous physician is still attached to pts current appointment.  Our physician dictates a note and faxes it. New physician information hasn't been carried through and current note goes to previous physician....  I know we can go in to the appointment details and update it however it would be helpful if it pulled this info in.

Instead of updating the Patient Demographics with the new Referring Physician the recommended workflow is to update the Referring Physician in the Appointment Details. This not only updates the appointment, but will update the referring physician on the letter. And this even prompts the user to update the Referring Physician in the Patient Demographics.

You only need to update the referring physician in one place, and this updates it in all 3 places within the EMR.

When updating the Referring Physician only in the Patient Demographics, this will not affect any already scheduled appointments, since past appointments may have been referred by a different provider.
