As a general rule - any specialist office requires a referral in order to arrange an appointment. Accuro does have a patient portal which does not work for our specialist office needs, as patients are not able to request an appointment - the need for an assessment is usually determined by another physician.
Our previous EMR had an OnLine booking platform which allowed any physician in our address book with a prac id number (billing number) to login thru the OnLine booking platform, (Their prac id was there login in). They would then enter the patient ULI, It the ULI already existed in our system it would give the user the option to update phone etc., if the patient was new to our system, the referring office would be prompted to enter name, phone, DOB, HT and WT etc. They then would proceed on to select the type of appointment they wanted: a consult, a diagnostic test etc and they then select the date and time, DONE. They were also able to print out an appointment confirmation with a map to our facility. They would then simply fax all relevant diagnostics to our clinic.
There were booking "rules" imbedded in the programming unique to our clinic, i.e. DOB, as we are an adult facility, any DOB entered that was not 18 or over would be stopped. If HT and WT were not entered, the user would be prompted to enter. If phone number was missed etc.
This was an amazing user friendly feature which drastically reduced the number of incoming phone calls to our switchboard to book appointments. And the referring physician was aware of the appointment date immediately.
It was amazing - something that Accuro is missing.
