Scanning bar code from label populated at hospital with patient demographics and have it populate into EMR.
The physicians I work for do hospitalist work and I do their billing. When they see patients in hospital they bring me a sheet with labels on it with the patient demographics so that I can enter them manually into the computer before I bill them (these are patients currently not in our system). These labels have been generated at the hospital with a bar code beside the patient name. At the hospital a physician just needs to scan this bar code to have the patient demographics pop up on the computer. It would be very helpful in our practice if we could also just scan this bar code and have the demographics populate into the EMR as it is really time consuming to enter it manually.
I think this would markedly increase the usefulness of the application, increase productivity, and is already available in other platforms. This should be prioritized. Thanks!
