If items are retained in the inboxes for mail (eg. messages saved for reference), labs (reviewed but pending patient contact), tasks (in progress), it is sometimes difficult to quickly determine if the inbox contains new items since it was last viewed. It would be nice if the Icon (envelope, checklist, beaker, etc.) changed colour or if the number beside it was bold to indicate a change in item count since last access.
I agree this would be useful. In an ideal world we would see one number for total items and one number for "new" items since last checked.
