Referral Date - Make entry easier and retrieval possible

For specialist clinics the collection of the Referral Date information on each and every patient does not have a good flow. And then there is no way to pull the data back in a template, form or wait list entry when entered in the current Referral Date field in the Patient Module.

  1. Entry: the usual workflow would be the admin processing incoming faxes in the Documents module, and having to create new patients from scratch in the New Patient Window (F6). Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to add the referral date on the New Patient Window, instead of having to either 1: add the patient, open the Patient module, enter the Referral Date and update the patient (see note below 2 a/b/c- that is useless)

  2. Retrieval:

    1. Not possible in Templates- there is no data tag for the hard coded Referral Date that has been entered in the Patient Module found in the Template Wizard- so the Referral Date needs to be manually entered in the consult note back to the referring physician or on acknowledgement of receipt templates, etc. Providers will write "Thank you for your referral of 02/26/2020. I saw this pleasant...."

    2. Not possible in Forms - the hard coded Referral Date field is not accessible as a component in forms. You cannot query it to add to a form and so you need to enter a date field or text field component and record the date manually.

    3. Not possible in the Wait List - the Referral Date the admin has worked so hard to record in the Patient Module does not come over into a Wait List request automatically, so needs to be entered again there, manually.

  3. As a workaround to our current hard coded Referral Date in the Patient Module -

    1. out with the old, in with the new. Create a new Referral Date field in Patient Module as a Custom Field. Deactivate the hard coded Referral Date by going to Start> Users> Manage Security> System Settings >Configure Patient Section > disable Referral Date by clicking on it and checking 'Hidden' > OK > Save Settings > Close. That allows the user to query the new Patient Custom Field in both the Form Editor and the Template Wizard. OR

    2. add a custom Medical History Band to record the Referral Date on which the user can then query in both the Form Editor and the Template Wizard.
