Restrict / limit typed content to size of text box / area in forms

Currently, you can type an unlimited number of characters into text fields/areas on forms, and the extra characters just go off into oblivion. This is not only inconvenient, but a patient safety issue. If the form is then faxed or printed (or even viewed by a provider who doesn't notice there is extra information), information is missing and may become a safety issue. I previously created this idea a long time ago, called "Limit character allowance to the size of text fields/areas in forms", and it received 28 votes. I truly believe this is an urgent issue, as we've experienced situations where crucial information (like allergies) was pushed off into oblivion. It's also very user-unfriendly to get this information back. In text fields, at least you can scroll over with the keyboard buttons and it scrolls the text. But with text areas, if you scroll down, it doesn't scroll the text up as well. Your cursor just goes down into oblivion. The ONLY way to get this information back is to put your cursor into the text area, hit Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C to copy, and then go into another application/note and Ctrl+V to paste in order to read the content. This is a completely ridiculous workflow that a lot of users wouldn't even know how to complete. Also, depending on the sizing of your text area and font size, the lines that have gone off into oblivion may have been cut right between the lines (instead of divided in the middle of one line), so it isn't even apparent to a user that there are extra lines. PLEASE fix this issue!
