Our previous EMR had the ability to select another province from the drop down menu of the billing screen. This allowed us to more easily correct billings for patients who had recently moved from another province. The date in which their health care number is active can be variable. As it stands currently, one would have to designate the desired billing province as the primary which is time consuming.
The Ontario Ministry of Health currently has some billing rules around virtual care that specify that physicians need to see patients in-person or for a video consult before comprehensive virtual care can be billed. Many patients of our clinic comes with an out-of-province health card (e.g., Nova Scotia health card) and the bill is submitted reciprocally under "OHIP". Later, when the patient's health card switches to an Ontario health card, it is very difficult to ascertain when the switch happened and if an in-person appointment occurred under their current Ontario health card vs. their previous health card. The appointment history window only shows that the insurer was 'OHIP' but doesn't specifically note which health card province. It would be very helpful to have this information somewhere in the patient section or in the appointment history window.
