Synchronize Current Patient Across Work Stations

When context switching from one computer to the next (or one room / office to the next), each Accuro instance stays on a different Current Patient. Not only is this behavior inconvenient, it's also prone to causing errors. If I work on a patient chart in the office, go to a room, start a conversation, and then log in, it is easy to forget that the new work station is NOT updated to the new patient. I start charting only to realize I have the wrong chart open -- the correct chart was opened ONLY in the office.

In short, ALL Accuro instances should synchronize the current patient. There is never a reason for the same individual to be using TWO terminals on TWO different computers simultaneously (unless someone else has their login credentials). Thus, it seems more reasonable to simply update the current patient on ALL instances for a particular physician.

**MANY RX ERRORS WITH THE WRONG RX FOR THE WRONG PATIENT MADE BY MYSELF AND MY COLLEAGUES HAVE RESULTED BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. IT HAPPENS NEAR WEEKLY.

Creating a habit of ensuring you refresh your screen and check you are working on the correct patient will mostly eliminate this issue.

I have worked in many clinics where the physician (for example) will be logged in to more than one station. Will be working on a document (lets say a consult note for the last patient seen), but then is interrupted with a patient that needs to be seen urgently. Physician leaves room but forgets to save document. If they are now in another room with another patient and if the computers all sync to whichever patient is currently now being worked on, will create even more issues of work being lost.

As long as you always are checking the chart you have open before starting any work, it is not likely you will chart on the wrong patient very often. Our clinic also uses dual screens for our EMR's so having the protocol of always checking whose chart is loaded, is mandatory to prevent user error.
