Medication List Update
As an MOA, I have a lot of issues with the medication list. When the patient arrives at our office, I verify their demographic information and ask for a current list of medications. Lots of patient's bring lists that are not as complete as Accuro (not prefix {nu-, apo-}, the dosages don't match what Accuro has, there are not many supplements or vitamins on the list {some supplements and vitamins effect heart rate, breathing etc} and sometimes I can't find the medication at all. Some people literally bring a list of the names of the medications they are on- nothing else. This could be really bad if someone else went entirely by the information on the doctor's letter. The MOA is entering a list, not writing a prescription, so it would be nice to enter as little or as much detail as the patient provides. If we are just picking a dosage because the patient does not know what the real dosage is, Accuro puts it in the letter as a true verified medication. Also, the medication is duplicated if the MOA enters it off the patient's list and the physican writes a prescription during the appointment. The set up right now for the medication list is labour intensive and not as accurate as it could be. The other physician's in our office have noticed this trouble too, and here are a few things we would like to see: 1. An option to type exactly what we see on the patient's list (so just a space for typing) This would also be good if we cannot find the medication on Accuro's list as it's a different name. 2. Medications without the prefix to select from 3. Somewhere to pick a frequency (PRN, QID, etc) 4. Vitamins, health supplement list 5. Ability to type in the dosage 6. Ideally, I would like to be able to pick from your list, pick a frequency, then on a seperate line have a place for me to type. 7. Ability for Accuro to check for duplicate medications (metformin, glycon; zantac, ranitidine) and even to verify that the physician did not prescribe something off of the patient's list and have it be listed again in the external. 8. Having a 'favorites' list seperately from the physicians - for the MOA's
Having to "fake it" - ie pick a random dose because you can't enter just the medication is absolutely ridiculous. Will lead to an inaccurate chart and potential patient harm if that arbitrarily chosen dose is taken to be true.
