The absence of a notification or other type of visual indicator is a liability for patient care. In fact, we have witnessed this workflow breakdown in our office where a physician believes a prescription has been sent to a pharmacy when in fact the transmission failed. We learned of the failure because the patient arrived at the pharmacy, but the pharmacist had no record of the prescription. Requiring one to consult the Fax Manager to audit their faxes--especially a busy clinician or physician--does not promote an optimized digital workflow.
On behalf of my office, we would be grateful if this workflow deficiency could be addressed in the near future.
Yes, this could be very serious as there is no evidence at all that a fax was sent and failed even though it appeared to go through. This happened because we selected a contact from Accuro address book which only had a phone number listed, not a fax number. I guess if there had been an incorrect fax number we might have been seen that it failed eventually but because there was NO fax number listed, nothing registered in the fax manager log at all! And no evidence of what had been attempted to send.
We have periodically experienced a failed fax (because no fax number was listed in the address book), but not been notified of this. So we think a fax has gone through when it hasn't. Could there be a notification when the fax does not go through (as it didn't register in fax manager), or a pop-up to notify us that there is a missing fax number in the address book.
