In the case of an emergency at the clinic or hospital, a user can hit the panic button which will trigger a flashing pop-up message on the screen of all Accuro users.
This can be helpful in hospitals on psychiatric floors or in the ER.
A staff member at the clinic said that their previous EMR had this option and they had used it a couple of times to get the doctor's attention when there was an emergency or they needed him ASAP in the OR.

How would you see a Panic Button feature working in the EMR? Where should it live? What should it do to notify others that assistance is required?
A panic button that overrides/sends global pop up message when used, and indicates who pressed the panic button so clinic staff know who is in need/distress/acquires immediate assistance. I would assume putting it onto the dock would cause accidental clicking, so a shortcut key that is easy to memorize and can be customized to suit each clinic would be preferable.
Some of the feedback we have heard about panic buttons is that accidental alerts desensitizes users with so many false alarms, to the point that clinics have disabled them. It would be good to understand how this could be avoided.
Most Accuro functionalities have been designed to have some sort of rectification method, and this should be applied similarly to a panic button. If someone is needing to utilize the panic button, it should involve holding down a shortcut key for a certain item interval (i.e. pressing down on two keystrokes for 3 seconds) and can be turned off by pressing the same shortcut key down with no time interval. A sound on/off option should be deployed, with it automatically set to "off" or "no sound", as this will likely be a feature clinics want to customize. It would also be good to be able to set the customization as a clinic-wide rule, but can still be customized by each individual within their user preference.

Some clinics have invested in physical panic buttons, others use phone (desk or cell) or are left with verbal/non-verbal options only if within eyesight or earshot.

Simple popup alert message to all other users currently logged in.
It would seem this could be added as a dock action item. Tara C's option could work as well.

False alarms are an inherent risk of a system that is intentionally designed to be easy to use. In a crisis situation you don't really want a nine-step, skill-testing process. Please consider that if clinics choose to disable an alarm system, this does not negate the potential benefit for other clinics.
This would be an excellent feature to see integrated into Accuro. I know other EMRs have it included.

I used Jonoke in Ontario and that was a great feature!
We did use it a few times as well.
Would love to see it added to Accuro.
Our clinic would be very interested in having this feature.
I think the best place for this is a hot button along the bottom and maybe a keyboard shortcut that sends an emergency message to all logged in users. Something short and simple such as Username: Needs immediate assistance.
We were deeply saddened to hear of the tragic situation in Red Deer, and send healing thoughts to those involved.
To the suggestion of a Panic Button: Accuro does not presently have a Panic Button function, but does have the ability to broadcast messages to all clinic users through use of the Chat feature.
That said, we would like to support our users, and better understand the best way a feature like this could be helpful. We would appreciate your insight.

This just became exceptionally important given the murder of an Alberta physician this week.
Jonoke had this feature. We needed and used it a couple of times at our clinic--when MD's needed immediate assistance. The only problem we encountered was the accidental clicking of the button! Our policy was that everyone respond by going to the doctor's office...caused a few chuckles over the cry of "Wolf!"
