Sending or reading a Healthmail message should automatically cause the patient's chart to open in the EMR.

When sending or receiving a HealthMail message, often there is work that needs to be done in the patient's chart at the same time. Since the EMR does not automatically open the chart of the HealthMail patient, the user needs to search for the patient before doing any work in the EMR chart. This adds time to the workflow, and also opens up the possibility that the user may forget to open the chart and end up doing work in the wrong patient's chart. It would make sense both from a workflow efficiency perspective, as well as an error prevention perspective, for the EMR to automatically open the chart when the user is reading or composing a HealthMail message.

    Admin response

A feature to address this was just released, in build 2017.74.1.

Patient Name in Message Header now Clickable, HealthMail
The patient name in the header of a Patient Messaging, ePrescribe, or eConsult (ON) message in HealthMail is now a clickable field. Once clicked, the patient will be loaded as the global patient and take the user to the patient's EMR section. Hovering over the patient name in the HealthMail header will also display a helpful tooltip of "Load Patient."

A change was made in 2019 to address this, but it caused latency issues, and so was reverted.

So Shelley, in healthmail if I open a recipient in there it will open in Accuro but if I am looking at a patient in the Document Section or the Lab Section that patient will still not load automatically in Healthmail, correct?
