Busy users of the EMR do not want to reset their EMR password on a quarterly basis or at all.
Compelling users to reset their password every 3 months has several downsides - 1. it is an undue burden on users, 2. the intended effect of a mandatory password reset is improved security. The safest spot for a password is in the user's memory. Though users may be advised to use a password manager, users cannot be compelled to use a password manager - many users might document their new password in a spot that is not secure at their workstation, thus reducing security. 3. mandatory password changes may result in users forgetting their passwords and being locked out of the charts in the days after a password change, reducing efficient patient care, 4. 2-step verification should make the mandatory password change redundant.
I urge Accuro-QHR to revisit the policy of mandatory password changes and cancel it altogether.
strong agree
Absolutely agree. Undue burden plus actually achieving the exact opposite of the intended outcome (i.e. reduced security).
