As a specialist office, we often do not change the referring physician after the patient is first seen in our office. We only change/update the family physician going forward with patients who require follow up. Now numerous billing claims are being rejected because the referring physicians may no longer be practicing and their billing number is expired. We have to go and change all of the referring physicians to the family physician in order for the claims to go through. This is incredibly time consuming when you have 10 physicians and thousands of patients. Please make the family physician default into the billing claims!
following this one…but in order to get paid does it not need to be the referring physician who sent the referral and if they leave the patient needs to get a new referral from an active physician to continue care? (I wish there was a spot to ask other clinics what they do, lol)
