Out of Office Message to Patients (when doctor away)

When doctor is away, Medeo should send an "out of office" message to the patient.

We have examples of patients sending somewhat urgent requests for medical advice where the doctors is away for >1 week. As a result, the patient concern is not responded to in a timely manner when if the same patient had just called the office, we would have directed them to urgent care.

There is potentially a medical/legal concern here.

To add to this concern, the Alberta billing code 03.01S (for "physician to patient secure electronic communication") requires that "communication must inform patients when the physician is unavailable".

As Medeo has no out-of-office feature, this bill code is lost to us.

I totally agree that there should be an "out of office" message that pops up when the patient emails us. In our clinic there is more than one person that can help the patient and they need to be directed to them in the secretary's or the doctor's absence. Why use Medeo for messaging when we can put an out of office alert on our regular email?

I completely agree with the above concern. At least, there could be a message attached to the signature adding that the inbox may not be monitored on a regular basis and if the concern is urgent, please call the office. I am very concerned that there will messages that will be missed that could result in a complaint.

This requires prioritization. It is indeed a potential medicolegal concern.
