If I decide to send part of a patients chart to someone, I can see the cover sheet in virtual chart but cannot see who I sent the fax to or what was sent. I realize a fax icon will show by the faxed report but if I'm faxing multiple things away, I cannot recreate what I've sent and to whom other than by going into the general fax manager. This is a potentially huge medico legal issue if I cannot recreate the steps that I have done as I may need to recreate one or two years after if I get sued. Therefore suggest that fax recipients be attached to cover letter in EMR as well as either the document faxed or some reference number so I can tell what documents were included.
I agree that the only evidence a fax was even sent from within the patients chart is limited ONLY to a note of whatever text you "may" have typed on the cover-page aside from the little fax icon beside the document which really means nothing if it cannot be traced. The fax number nor images of what was actually sent is not saved into the patients chart.
Faxes sent are only viewable from the fax manager. Up until it is purged and old faxes are deleted that is, then the record is lost forever.
The only way I found to currently get around this issue was to: Send the fax. Open the fax manager. Open the fax you just sent. Create a PDF of the fax. Upload the PDF image into accuro. File the PDF image of the sent fax into the patients chart.
Ridiculous ...
