When we send important info to patients by secure messaging, we need an easy way (not logging into a second system) to be able to see if a message was received and read. One might argue in our province we have a legal obligation as well.
Our office currently has a cumbersome workflow wherein a task is sent to receptionists to check that a Healthmail message has been read by the patient. It would be extremely helpful if the EMR automatically checked that Healthmail messages have been read. If a message sits unread after a defined number of days, the EMR would automatically send a message to notify the sender. This feature could be designed to be turned on or off based on user preference. The current system leaves a lot of room for missed communications.
