Adding Conversations to Completed Tasks

I (receptionist) completed a task. However more conversation happened that was documented on the original task and I was able to click on the doc's name and send to him the updated conversations... or so I thought. These conversations needed his attention, to the point when it was sent again, (or so I thought) it was sent as urgent. I was notified this morning that he did not receive any of my additional conversations including my urgent task because the task was completed. We were not notified that once a task is completed you cannot send the task again. If this is the case, we should not be able to add to the conversation and we should not have the option of sending the task as usual because it doesn't get sent!!
