Sex at birth field and gender preference field with preferred pronouns would be helpful.
Yes, definitely need X under the gender drop down. This is now an option for patients on their Saskatchewan Health card, and the demographics that we use to submit billings need to match their health record.
I would suggest a distinction between Sex and Gender. Sex requires M/F distinction for risk calculation (U might be useful for hormonal interventions or karyotype considerations that might affect calculations).
Gender is about identity, which is important information but will confound mathematical formulas.
I propose using something similar to a Custom Note field for Gender, with available dropdown items that a clinic can modify as needed.
Please add Gender X as an option in the demographics.
There should be a section for Gender and a section for Assigned at birth (M-F-Intersex).
It would be helpful to have a preferred pronouns section as well that can be programmed into their name tab.
As many individuals are gender fluid and some two spirited this allows for more fluidity between how we are able to address our patients. To be able to quickly look at their name tag and see, He/him, She/her or They/them. and adjust as needed for patients !
Thanks!
M, F, Non Binary, Other. This really needs to be updated in Accuro as soon as possible, and possibly an option to add other designations as per clinic need.
A simple option would be to change the "gender" field to "sex". Sex is listed on health card, which is where we would get M or F or other from anyways - gender has nothing to do with it! Changing the verbage would be great.
should list:
Male, Female, M to F, F to M, Transgender, Non binary, Fluid, Other with space to enter information as there are many many other gender deisgnations used and likely more will be introduced as time goes on. Additional option to list preferred pronouns would also be quite helpful
We also need an "other" option for those of us who are not women or men.
No. Transgender people are women, men, and nonbinary people. There is no need to distinguish between transgender and cisgender people. Transgender women are women. Cisgender women are women. There is no categorical difference in their womanhood.
What we need is a title "Mx" option for nonbinary people who cannot appropriately use "Mr," "Ms," or "Mrs."
Thank you for working on this, it's an important issue for providing inclusive patient care. When making changes, please consider making the options easy to customize. It would be most useful for clinic administrators to be able to create their own categories for gender and preferred pronouns so that they can match the gender categorization that the patient provides as currently there are 58+ gender designations which are in use, and likely more will be introduced as time goes on. There also needs to be a way to capture preferred pronouns (8+ different sets of pronouns in regular use currently, and again more may be introduced).
Hello! I would like to advise everyone that this is something we are actively looking into. I will update this further when I have more information to share. Thank you!
I'm amazed that this has not been addressed yet. I will echo what was said above: "This is very important for providing trusting and supportive care for clients"!!
Has this been updated yet? This is very important for providing trusting and supportive care for clients
I completely agree. When this option is put in place, the M-> F option on the letter should also include M-> F->T as an option, with they specified for pronouns rather than he or she.
This was posted 3 years ago, and seems like a simple correction. In these times, we are coming across a lot of people identifying as "they/them" or transgender and it is a shame our software can not keep up with this.
