When trying to send a referral letter, all incoming hospital documents ie labs, imaging, dictated consult notes from other agencies, when selected to attach to the referral letter merge as one document. So for example, a CT scan does NOT have a page with a consult note from another physician and labs are attached to the CT report from multiple dates.
This is NOT ideal. NO receiving physician would want multiple diagnostic reports merged together. Most offices like to file these reports individually for ease of the physician to find the report while reviewing the patient chart.
This needs to change immediately. In a world where paper waste is critical, this is causing me to print each report, sometimes 50 pages long, then having to shred immediately. It is not cost effective, environmentally friendly and takes away from a true EMR.
